Vehicle Data Plate
The Vehicle Data plate can usually be found on the rear edge of one of the doors, but can also be found on one of the front suspension towers. This is where you will find the Commission Number (later called the Vehicle Identification Number or V.I.N.), the Build Year, Build Month, Paint Code and Trim Code.

Body Number
In addition to the Commision Number/VIN, most cars were labeled with a body number. This is usually found on a small tag pop-rivetted beside one of the bonnet (hood) hinges. On some cars this tag can be found on one of the front suspension strut towers.

Engine Serial Number TR8 The V8's engine serial number is located on the left side between the middle two spark plugs.

On the 4 cylinder it is located by looking down between the carburettors.

4 spd Transmission Serial Number The early 4 spd serial number is a little more difficult to locate than the 5 spd, in that it is on top of the transmission. You should definitely get this one while the tranny is out for repair. Alternatively, clever use of a mirror may do the trick.

5 spd Transmission Serial Number
The 5 spd serial number is easily located from underneath the vehicle. It should appear on the left side of the outer casing.

The rear axle serial number can best be seen from underneath the vehicle in the location shown.
