Capri brake conversion ![]() |
A while ago Ford Capri brakes was subject of a thread on the WWW Mailing List. As a matter of fact I had started the thread after reading a article in 'Triumph World' magazine. Because I couldn't succeed finding these brakes on the scrapyard I bought them as a set from S&S Preparations (UK). I paid 250 GBP. It's a lot of money, at least to me, but I wanted to have a safe TR7. Everyone must admit that the standard TR7 brakes aren't doing what they are supposed to do; stop the car in a reasonable time! Or is it just because you're used to the brakes of much modern cars. Nowadays traffic is faster than in the old days. Because I use my TR7 a lot and also my wife drives it now and then, I find it important to have a safe car. The Capri calipers are from the European 2.8i. They are two pot items but are wider than standard to allow the fitting of Capri vented discs using one inch conversion plates. The calipers bolt on directly. ![]() (below) But as others on the list mentioned, the TR7 disc is thin. It's better to use TR8 discs or Capri vented discs. ![]() (at the left) The vented discs are assembled onto the hub with an alu spacer. I found out that I had to file the Capri caliper a little bit because the wheel hub scratched over the caliper. The pads that came with the kit are from Ferodo. They are bigger than the standard TR7 pads. They pads have a harder compound to reduce fading. ![]() More to come .....click here to continue this story. | |
