Phil E. mentioned fender flares in SP... yes, but that's not the problem.
When 
you use wider-than-stock rims/tires and turn the steering wheel, they rub in
the
middle of the footwells.  Judicious use of a hammer gains some clearance, 
but not much.

Too heavy for DM.  There was/is an EM GT-6/Spitfire (GT-6 nose, Spitfire 
body) with a rotary engine in the southern California area.  Typical RX-7
tranny and differential for these conversions.
