Dan, 
        I can only say this from my own experience but "keep practicing". I
have found that double clutching eases the wear on the tranny
considerably, also that it makes the shift smoother and easier. Heel-toe
I've found definitely helps keep the car better settled when
transitioning to a lower gear. YMMV
