Every region should realize that it is only a matter of time before 
they start seeing an increase in the Street Touring crowd as a direct 
relation to the increasing popularity of the sport compact car scene. 
Just look at the magazine section at any Borders/Barnes&Noble and you 
see the auto section littered with sport compact specific titles -- 
Max Power (US and UK versions - UK version is more fun), Sport 
Compact Car, Import Tuner, Turbo & Hi Tech Performance, etc.
At our first event in Chicago Region last weekend we had:
SM      18 entrants (not exclusive to sport compact scene, but most 
cars in this class were sport compact based)
ST-S    16 entrants
ST-R     2 entrants
Our total number of entrants was 140, so participation in the "newer" 
classes was just over 25%.
Also, there were an additional 39 entrants in our Street Tire Classes 
(some of whom will be moving to Street Touring soon as they start 
modifying their vehicles).

Note: We use TS and TR to designate STS and STR respectively as to 
not confuse timing/corner workers.  We use ST for all Street Tire
