Hey folks what is the general consenes on tire width around here.
the car came with 255 50 17 BF goodrich rocks. i changed to a 245 50 17 SZ 50
firehawks, then to a 285 45 17 Nitto 55 extreme.
I am in need of tires again and i am considering a switch back to the stock
size. The stock size is about $25 a tire cheaper. vs the 285 40. the tires I
am looking at are BFG KDW or Potenza re730 in 285, or the Potenza in a 255 50.
Does the extra width, besides looking good on the car have any performance
benefit?
I do have the ability to reprogram for tire sizes, so tranny shifting and
speedo are not issues, I do get rubbing on the sway bars with a full lock turn
with the 285's, but not enough to wear the tire Both tires have a treadwear
rating of 300 really great for Autocross I know :)
BTW the car is a 94 Impala running is ESP occasionaly, hoping to run my first
full season in two years next year.
Any info/opinions are welcome
