My boss was a competitor in the event.
His recollection is there was a slolom thru an intersection in which the car in
question, a first-timer in a late-model F-body, carried too much speed lost the
rear end and then locked up all four which slid him up into a gas station's
parking lot.
After that slolom the local police had a radar speed display setup for the
crowd.
Afterwards the driver said he was looking at the crowd when he lost it.
The event was canceled after the incident.
