You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
I too have had that problem at local events. Sometimes they will at least
let a friend ride with them. While that may or not help it's at least a
step toward admitting a need for help. The biggest problem is getting these
to come back often enough to get comfortable and see they need the help and
accept it at a later date.
In general I too am looking for an answer to that question.
