The one exception in compact SUVs is the Jeep Liberty (and the Cherokee
if you are looking at used vehicles) which has a tow rating of 5000lbs
when equipped with the 6-cylinder and the automatic. I have towed my
Miata on a 16' aluminum car trailer with my '89 Cherokee (with 200k
miles on it no less) and it pulled just fine. Got 15mpg too...
