The literature, as I recall, warns of a color change but not a loss in
protection. Using it in a 'dark' place like the frame should be no issue
at all. I used POR-15 on my rollbar, didn't topcoat it, and yes there's
a color shift (has kinda a milkiness to it, but not all that bad) but
after two years it's still doing fine.
