List, and NOWROC members,
I have been on the island many times and it is beautiful. I recommend a stop
at Ft. Casey. Always a fun place to stretch your legs, and one of the nicest
old light houses around. North of deception Pass is Mt. Erie. It is a steep
rock out cropping overlooking the area with spectacular views on a clear
day. Also a stop at LaConner is fun. Micro brewery, antiques, local art, you
can even go wale watching if you have time.
Will you be taking the ferry to the island, or driving around? A good
alternate rout from the tulip loop is the BEST Rd. (actual name) It runs
from the tulip fields to Conway (10 mi. south of Mt. Vernon on I-5) on some
nice twistys. Let me know your routing and perhaps I can help. This is sort
of my back yard after all. The Conway Pub has a great bacon cheese burger,
and a little Tavern (can't remember the name) in LaConner has good fish &
chips.
