Mick,
I had parts powder coated and they were affected by gas and especially
antifreeze. I suggest you have the piece re-plated. I was disappointed by
powder coating and it ain't cheap either.
I did use Bill Hirsch's Miracle Paint and found it much tougher than powder
coating and just as shiny and hard and unaffected by gas and antifreeze. I
have used this paint on many parts and have had much success with it. I
recommend it highly but you must wear gloves while using it or else. BTW, it
looks just like powder. It's about $30 per quart.
