Hey all-

I know I've shared this before, but Fred's comment reminded me of a similar
problem I encountered during my 69 2L rebuild.
I had the block tanked and kilned.  While doing the final wash and dry with
stanisol, I kept finding small specs of "dirt".  The problem was finally
discovered up inside the oil return passage at the back of the block.  There
was a "pocket" of casting sand that had been there since manufacture.   Not
hard to see why the engine had been apart 3 times (the best I can tell) with
only 48,000miles-go figure.
It never hurts to be extra careful.
