We now fill every box with chevron utility grease. it is like a runny
grease and does not flow out of leaky boxes. You need less than a
litre(.85). we can only buy it in 20 litre pails. cost is $3 US per
litre. The effect is that the steering box is now tiotally immersed in a
jello like substance that coats all aspects of the box. This wont help
worn, broken, out odf adjustment steering boxes. early units have a
drain plug on the side. later recirculating ball ones do not. To remove
grease we have used air pressure on the early ones and suction on the
later ones. To date, there have been no problems and no leaks.
