this string of ot posts has caused this lurker to finally chime in. i
think the new z is a great value and the more i look at it, the more
the car grows on me. the car starts at $26,269 fairly well equipped
and will have more than 280 hp (at least 100 more hp than a celica
which could cost almost the same for an optioned gts model). even
with the most expensive model with every option you're looking at no
more than $36,000.00. i can't think of another 2 seat sports car on
the road that has that kind of hp to price ratio. as for 6.0 seconds
to 60, i think if you compare cars of similar weight and hp, it
becomes clear that the car will easily beat that figure. look at
acura's most recent numbers for their $90k plus nsx--3200lbs, 280 hp,
244 lb/ft of torque and it runs to 60 in 4.9 seconds. from the
numbers i've seen regarding the new z, including weight, the nsx's
figures match up pretty closely other than the torque figure, the new
z having quite a bit more torque. also, nissan has already stated
that this z will have the best performance figures of any z to date.
the last figure i saw for a z32 tt to get to 60 was 5.6 seconds.
finally, as for the wrx, i've now driven two separate cars extensively
as i keep finding myself drawn to the package as a whole. other than
the seats and steering wheel, i found the car's interior to be flimsy
at best as well as extremely small. As for 60 in 5.7 seconds, i
believe it, but i certainly don't want to do what is necessary to the
clutch and drive train to get a good enough launch to achieve that
number repeatedly.
