Hello All,

Since I put in my car for restoration with Sports Imports last July I have
received quite a number of emails asking about the costs involved. How much
is Ross charging you and how much do things like acid dipping cost.

Truth be told, I have no idea what acid dipping costs. Ross will eventually
forward me the bill from the place where he had the body dipped, but that
place is in British Columbia, Canada and Ross has done many cars there and
they probably give him a good deal. The thing is if I tried to negotiate a
deal with a place the cost would not be the same.

As far as what Ross is charging me, he tells me the same thing he would tell
you: he charges 50.00 an hour for labor and it will take anywhere between
500-700 hours to do a full restoration.

As far as how much I gave him to start that is a deal made between Ross and
me and you might not make the same deal. Suffice it to say it was a
considerable amount.

This restoration is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me and I will never do
this again. I hired Ross for his expertise. He is a project mananger and my
car is the project. He hires the body person, engine maechanic, and will
oversee the rebuilding process.

So yes, I am spending a lot of money on this car. I believe I will get what
I am paying for. I will never make money on this car nor do I want to. This
car will be something I will treasure for the rest of my life. Some may say
I am spending too much money on the car but it isn't their car.

There is an old saying that holds true when paying for a full restoration on
a Datsun Roadster. If you need to ask how much than you probably cannot
afford it. Some of us are married, have kids, have other interests and other
responsibilities that come before things like restoring their cars. I am
totally in agreement with that.

At this time I have the resources to make it happen and I am making hay
while the sun is shining. So to those who ask me how much things cost all I
can say is "whatever it is worth to you".

My 1967.5 2000 is worth it to me. I am as interested in saving money as the
next guy but I tend to throw caution to the wind when it comes to this car.

I'm sure you can relate. ;-)
