Hi all, I have a mid-close 5-speed that I am considering selling. I
purchased it last year from Jay Ford in Chicago who was giving up on restoring
his car
and have never installed it as my car is still in at least a zillion pieces.
But I have disassembled it and inspected it and other than a couple of small
things that I will replace before I put it back together it appears to be in
pretty good shape. I have quite a bit into it but I am considering selling it;
if anybody is interested please let me know and what you think it might be
worth to you and we can talk about it.
Some comparisons between the "mid-close" and the "standard" 5-speed:
number of teeth per gear, drive/countershaft
standard:
1st 34/14
2nd 29/19
3rd 28/26
4th 23/28
5th 21/30
mid-close
1st 29/19
2nd 25/22
3rd 27/27
4th 23/28
5th 21/30
So 1st in the mid-close is the same as 2nd in the standard! And 4th and 5th
are the same in both. Probably not the best for getting away from the
stoplight, but then watch out! And the same top speed. Well, its interesting
for
those of us who are into nearly-useless information...
