I have a car with a frame rail rotted at the bottom. I have a welding rig
and enough experience, but like the idea of a "cold" repair. i.e., no gas tank
removal, no scraping off undercoating, etc.My question is are metal binding
agents like Fusor or the 3M products up to the job. I have had experience with
them in replacing floor pans, that seemed fine.
I am on a Mopar board and a discussion of bonding came up over a year ago.
Much was made about the manufacturers not recommending it for "structural"
repairs. Someone who seemed knowledgeable replied saying that "structural" had
to be understood in context. The "structure" is designed to have impact
absorption. Some of this is accomplished by spot welds releasing. The bonded
joints
do not "give" and some impact absorption is lost. The "structural" question
was not that the bond would fail.
Any experience here?
