I bet brake fluid would work to remove the paint.  It's safe for most rubber
and will definitely remove paint in a heartbeat!

The only problem with this tire is that someone painted a car purple and did
not cover the tire in the trunk.  There is a bit of purple paint on the
whitewall.  I would like to remove the paint, but don't know how without
taking a chance on hurting the rubber.
