Believe it or not, you can make a quick custom "miterbox"  Screw the mount
to a piece of scrap wood and mark length.  Add a front and back fence, make
a vertical mark on both fences .  Then remove the part, cut through the wood
carefully with the hacksaw and this will leave a slot exactly the width of
the blade, so when you screw the part back into the jig, the saw follows the
cut you made in the wood.  

Works great for shotgun barrels, only to achieve barrel lengths longer than
the legal minimum, of course.

Other way is screw it to a 1x6, with the part to be cut off overhanging the
edge, flip the board and run a sabre saw along the bottom of the board (now
on top)
