once I removed the stock alternator, the bracket wasn't in the way on
the driver side. I just left it there.
Oh wait, you mean cut the new pass. side mount, as described on the
311s.org site. Not sure what year your car is, but I encountered just
the opposite, I didn't need to cut, I had to add shims to move the new
alt pulley in line with the water pump. If you do need to cut, and are
going to use a hacksaw, try adding a groove with a dremel first, and you
may have better luck with the saw following the groove.

My turn to convert also.
Are you guys just cutting the alternator mount with a hacksaw?
My cuts never end up straight so I guess I'll have to file it straight,
unless someone's got another way (without involving a machine
shop)..........
