311 Listers,

I fabricated a roll bar (show bar) for the SRL this weekend. I didn't want to
drill any additional holes in the body so I used the stock factory mounting
points. In my opinion the fastener size dictated by the factory installed
mounting points on the luggage shelf will not keep the bar from tearing out in
the event of a violent rollover. I did add a third hole to the main hoop base
brackets that will increase the strength of the main hoop tie-in points but I
have yet to transfer those holes to the sheetmetal. In the interest of safety
I will probably increase the diameter of the fasteners on the luggage shelf
and back them up with plate next chance I get. So much for preserving the
body.

Anyway, If anyone wants an AutoCAD drawing of the dimensions for the main
hoop, let me know, I'll email you a copy. I can turn it into a Word doc or
bitmap as well.

The bar fits under a stock 68 soft top. I'm 6' 4" tall so my seat is mounted
1" aft of the rearward-most set of mounting holes (more extra holes in the
sheetmetal), and the seat is raked as far back as it will go. My criteria for
installing this bar was that it had to fit under the soft top, not interfere
with the erection of the top, not interfere with the movement of the seats,
and the stock top boot had to fit. I also wanted it over my head and I didn't
want it interfering with the view from the rear-view mirror. All criteria were
met, you can see shots at the following site:

Again let me know if you want a copy of the plan.
