I recently picked up a set of late style U20 Solexes along with the 35k mile
66 1600 which seller over a period of around 10 years had always referred to
as "new, never run Solexes" when I got them home, it is obvious that
although they look really, really clean, they have in fact been mounted
on/run on a car. ramains of manifold gasket still stuck to them... there was
supposed to be an air cleaner housing with them too, and that somehow never
materialized... anyhow, offering them for sale for a bit more than a generic
well used set, way less than NOS asking prices. would like to get $1250 for
the set, please contact me offline if interested. you might also be able to
talk me into selling you a B cam and a comp pan at additional cost if you
try hard enough ;-) although it has nothing to do with carbs, just traded
into a 46k mile 73 450SL to go along with the 75 that needed an engine. body
not so hot on the 73, would take $3500 for the pair if you'd settle for only
one of the two hardtops. my friend I got the 73 from actually had a deposit
on that car alone at $3500 but refunded it when he couldn't get the title in
a timely enough fashion for the purchaser... has the title now. he has a 48
Mercury convertible too, needs restoration but not hurtful, but I couldn't
swap on that because there's a 10k lien against it. $15k would buy that one
if anyone's interested, it's a real high dollar car fixed up. or make it
into a resto-rod and it's bigger bucks still... not a rustbucket at all.
