Pat,

Odd, Have you removed the domes and cleaned the pistons? The book
recommends gasoline but carb cleaner would be a better choice. They will get
carboned up and sticky. Can you lift the pistons with your finger while it is
running? That will lean it out. While you have the domes out check the piston
to
dome clearance. It should be about .003", about the same as a piece of copy
paper. If the dome to piston clearance is too much they will not seal and the
done will not lift. Never, never use anything abrasive to clean the inside of
the dome or the piston. It's easy to ruin them with sand paper. Check the two
vent holes on the face of the carb where the air cleaner bolts up. If they
are covered up by the gasket or clogged up the domes are not vented to the
atmosphere and will not rise properly.
Let us know what you find.

Now I have a 66/1600 that the pistons on the sus will not lift when the
engine is running. When the engine is not running the pistons will lift
and fall nice and smooth. The car is running VERY RICH because it can not
get air. What should I look for?
