Flashback (with the emphasis on "flash") to around 1967. I had the Rochester
2 barrel off of my 283-powered '61 Biscayne cleaning and re-jetting it.
Figured I might as well set the timing while the carb soaked in the cleaner
just by cranking the motor with the starter.

Failed to think about the fact that the fuel line was gonna spray gas until
it did and the "OH..., S@#t!!" didn't get out of my mouth before the
distributor sparked and BOOM!! Of course my arm was also covered in gas and
it lit up like the Olympic Torch.

The friend who was cranking the car quickly grabbed a old bath towel and
smothered the fire so fortunately the only things singed were the hair on my
arm, a bit on my head (yes, I did once upon a time have hair up there) and
my pride. My friend was an athletic trainer and he wrapped my arm so I could
maximize the sympathy factor with my girlfriend that weekend, particularly
since our "tuning activities" had made me late for our Saturday night date.
I mean if you're gonna do something REALLY dumb there might as well be some
benefit, right? ;>)
