This method is quite non-destructive.  Here's a video of John Twist  
at University Motors ( LBC guru) demonstrating a similar method on an  
MG Midget.

I had some really stubborn tie-rod ends on my 320 truck.  Pickle- 
forks and prying tools like one of the ones pictured were not  
working, but were messing up the rod end.  The two hammer trick with  
the castle nut lose but still on made the little beastie jump out of  
the hole.  Took a few times, but caused no damage.
