Fergus,

I recently parted an early 67 car and it had the "D" thingys that you are
speak of under the front bump stops. I have never seen these on late cars and
believe they were used on early 67 and earlier cars. I believe the intent is
to help hold the two sides of the A arms together structurally so the load
isn't carried by the ball joint alone.

doing a front suspension rebuild, and a few questions:
. there is a d-shaped "thingy" shown underneath the bump stop in the shop
anual:
ttp://www.gordon-glasgow.org/Images/38.gif
ppears to be either #45 or #48.
ine didn't have it when coming apart, appears to be a shim of some sort.
hat is it, and why? (nad it it has no holes drilled in it, however would it
e mounted / afixed?)
2. My upper Ball joints have had the Zerk removed and a screw put in, both of
hem. I can fill them now (cause the A-arm is removed), but shouldn't there
e a Zerk here as well?
OK, 3rd question, what is the correct Zerk thread, as I'll probably install
ne here.
And finally, am I the only one that gets a mental picture of some goon from
-Troop when he says Zerk? (that is why I capitalize it....)
thanks,
