If all is stock then regular will work fine. However, if the head has been  
shaved you might need mid grade or even premium. Set the timing to spec, 
yours  should be TDC unless you have a recurved dizzy. While driving in 3rd 
gear at  about 2000 rpm floor the gas petal. This is lower RPM and higher gear 
that you  would normally use. If you get no pinging then advance the timing 
a little and  try again. You should get a small amount of pinging under a 
lugging condition.  If it pings like crazy at stock timing then you need to 
go to a higher octane.
