I had another car (non-Triumph) one time that swallowed a valve while
still owned by the previous owner. I bought the car cheap 'cause it was
running "rough". I'll say it was running rough! The guy's mechanic took
the head off, saw a hole in the piston, replaced the valve and piston and
buttoned the motor up...
When I performed the "post mortem", I found the head of the valve in the
crank case and every part of that motor was trashed. The crank, block,
rods the other head... it was amazing that the thing ran at all.
So, I made the valve head into a "good luck charm". I carried that around
with me for a long time. And I used it to show folks what can happen if
you don't "do the job right" the first time.
I'm afraid to say that I'm 99.44% sure that you should replace the piston
with the gouge in it.
In other words - Ouch!
