Following the destruction of our beloved 'Coast to Coast' TR3A, the
investigator discovered that the Comm #, located on the firewall, did not
match up with the title.

What should have been TS30854L was actually TS31373E on the title and I had
not noticed it.

I was told I would have to resolve the discrepancy. Already a bit shaken, I
was unable to explain. At about 4:00AM in the morning it literally "dawned"
on me that this was the engine number. I went back to the car the next day
and verified the number and call the investigating sheriff's department. I
indicated that I knew not why the engine number was used, but it was. This
satisfied them and they released the car.

It still gnaws on me on how this would happen.

Any experience or understanding out there? It occurs to me that TS30854L has
never been registered in the U/S and perhaps I could use this number if I
reconstruct the car. No intent to defraud here....

Perhaps one of our U.K. Connections has insight here. (TS30854L as I owned
it was white, no Overdrive, no wires, heater, black interior, and factory
hardtop. If this inquiry is out of bounds, my apologies)

I think I can call the DOT and see if there is or was a TR registered under
that number.

Any speculation or knowledge of how the engine number happened to be used?

Thanks,

Joe Alexander
