Do you by any chance have a throttle return spring on the opposite side of the
carb from the lonkage connection?  It basically sounds like a problem with the
progression circuit, which comes into play as the idle jets are bowing out and
the main jets are strutting onto the stage.  One possibility is that the thin
and somewhat fragile throttle shaft has been twisted, such that one butterfly
is letting the fuel from the progession circuit into the carb, while the other
is not.  While idling, or at full chat, this slight phase difference is not
an issue.
