Hi FOTers

Several of the group have asked for my recommendation for books the WW2
D-Day Normandy landings and the Mosquito.

My favorite book on the Normandy landings is called 'The Longest Day' by
Cornelius Ryan, and published by Victor Gollangz Ltd. London. The book
explains the build up, battle plan, and execution of the landings. The
reason this book is my favorite is that the writer interviewed many British
and American commanders and soldiers about the campaign, as well as
providing French and German perspectives from patriots and German
commanders who were also involved (including details of Rommel's
perspective taken from German archives).

On the front of the book General Sir Frederick Morgan calls it 'Pretty much
of a masterpiece,' and American commander Lt. Gen. James Gavin says, 'If
you have read all the accounts of D-Day or none of them, if you were in the
fighting or on the sidelines, you will be spellbound, as I was, by this
magnificent telling of a glorious and tragic story.'

My favorite book on the Mosquito is 'Mosquito the illustrated History' by
Philip J. Birtles, published by Sutton publishing (first published 1998
UK).

This book has hundreds of photos and explains all the different Mosquito
applications and armaments. It also includes the inception of the aircraft
and how it was constructed.

Paul
