Wendy,

It would be better if you found an earlier distributor with vacuum
advance.  Since you are using the downdraft Webers, you have that
option.  However, if you don't want to switch out distributors,
you can work with the mechanical weights to allow them to open
sooner.  You do this by changing the springs on the flyweights. 
Either way, you need to get more advance with all the
modifications done to your engine.
Until you dial in more advance, you will not realize all the
benefits of your engine modifications.
The drawback to your setup are the downdrafts.  The adaptor used
to bolt them on a stock manifold is basically a sink trap.  It is
not conducive to optimum flow.
