Hi Gang

Firstly, welcome to the list Brad (Kahler) - anyone who's been introduced
to the list by 'Suepersonic' Hensley must be a gentleman.

Talking about 'dumb questions,' just before the battle of El Alamein, Field
Marshal Viscount Montgomery's TAC HQ was set up near the shore-line in the
North African desert. THIS IS A TRUE STORY.

Some of the British soldiers (from the Derbyshire Yeomanry) were getting a
bit twitchy to get on with the job and noticed that ducks had started to
fly over their position at dawn. Just for practice (and when they thought
Montgomery was absent) they ran competitions to see how many ducks they
could bring down with Bren guns fired from the hip (a Bren weighs about as
much as a TR gear box).

One morning, a lone duck flew over high and fast and one of the soldiers
couldn't resist it. He emptied his magazine at the duck and it came down
(half plucked so they say) in a spiral fashion considerably downwind and
landed in a plume of feathers right at the feet of the Field Marshal -
whilst he was talking over final battle strategy with his commanders. Monty
went ape s**t and gave the Yeomanry section a personal and gynormous
bollocking for indiscipline.

- Later than evening someone in the mess asked what had happened to the
duck. Monty's Batman said, "What a bloody silly question - Monty had it
served up this evening and complained there was no sage and onion
stuffing."
