Lowering with tyres is not all its cracked up to be. The amount of change
you can get on a Spitfire or GT-6 is not enough to cause real problems.
When the formula cars from the '50's with the tall skinny 15 inch tyres
were fitted with the short fat tyres from the '60's the cars didn't
handle well at all. Fitting shorter tyres totally messed with the
geometry.

One of the best books on the subject is "How to Make Your Car Handle" by
Fred Puhn.
There is everything you ever wanted to know about suspension and then
some. In fact, there is enough information to prove to you that the
subject is so complex that when you try to change anything you change the
compromises the original engineers struggled with so many years ago.
There are so many variables, and only so much money and time!
