I raced my TR3 at Summit Point this past weekend with the SCCA's Volvo
Historic Series. The SCCA had over 200 cars registered and for those
of you familiar with the Point, it was pretty crowded in the paddock
(and muddy). 25 cars showed up for the Volvo series, which was a
great turn out for this time of year, and the first race of the
season.. There were only 3 of us in my class, me and 2 BMW 2002's, so
there was not much competition in my class.
I had a great time learning the track, since it was my first time
here. What a great track!. I managed a good enough time in my first
session to take the Pole with a 1:31.775 (EP track record is 1:23+ in
a Lotus 7). Next to me on the front row was a Mustang, and at the
start, he blew me off. A Volvo 122 and a Volvo 142 got past me on the
first lap, but I was able to pass the 142 back later. I never got
past the 122, but was looking a few times. The 122 is in another
class, and the way the points are set up, overall finishing position
does not count, only class positions. I did not want to take too much
of a chance at blowing an easy lead on the remaining BMW, so I drove
conservatively to get the class points.
The for the first time out this year the car ran great, and was almost
trouble free. Something with the clutch is hanging up, and I can hear
it even with the engine off. I think the throw-out bearing sleave is
hanging up on the transmission's front hub. It is only doing this
when the car is hot, and did not effect it on the track except having
to push harder on the pedal.
The next race will be at New Hamphire May 5-6. Joe(B)
