Since the steel shim has almost a 0 crush factor, the only reason not to reuse
is if it is damaged when removing it from the block.   As others, I too
removed the studs to get the gasket off.  I also made two starter studs which
would locate the gasket while installing the rest of the studs when replacing
the gasket.   I also coated the steel shim with either aluminum paint (nice
heavy coat) or the spray-on copper gasket coating whose name I cannot remember
(senior moment) prior to reuse.

Jack Wheeler said he used his up to seven times.

I usually remove all of the studs to avoid damaging the gasket.
