This came to me via e-mail from Terry O'Beirne (esp@hypermax.net.au).  He 
wanted to make a comment about  6 cyl TR crank modifications he is doing 
and ask a couple of questions.

We also have proven 4 extra bolts holds the flywheel solidly. By 
lightening
the entire crank and end loads, the revs at which the various harmonic
vibrations occur, are raised. You can actually calcualte the harmonic 
points
by suspendsing the crank, ringing it, and doing a frequency analysis. A
simpler method for most is to fit accelerometers to the block and race or
dyno it.
We have proven the short nose cranks and related flywheel are less prone 
to
wobbles. These are available for both 2000 & 2500 engines. I have only 
ever
seen EN16 cranks, though injected TR's and saloons up to 1972, had
cross-drilled cranks which stop oil starvation at high revs. These are
getting very rare.
Our 2.5PI racer uses a much  modified and lightened 8.5" Borg & Beck 
clutch,
but a Tilton is the next fitment along with an alloy flywheel. We run it 
to
6800 rpm all the time and have never broken anything. Dyno figures are 
200hp
at rear wheels, so we are trying pretty hard. Could somebody comment 
further
on the use of fluid front dampers for this engine as they sound a great
idea. In particular, which "common fitment" is easies to modifiy and fit. 
A
Chev ones looks OK. I would greatly appreciate some further comment from 
Kas
Kastner on the 2500 crank mods to allow such high revs. Even our lightened
PI crank, hates much over 7000rpm. I agree with kas, the GT6 crank is no
bother because of the high overlap, however we have lightened them
extensively to move the safe revs to 8500rpm.
