Greetings Amici,
E-Ticket Triumphs left their mark on VARA this weekend with Triumphs scoring
in every class they entered.
Chuck Gee's 1500 Spitfire squeaked out a win both days, but not without a
fight from Mordy Dunst's awesome TR4. Paul Smock's TR4 was "rear gunner" for
the whole show and finished third on both days. A fast Volvo was trying to
get into the lead battle past Paul but couldn't do it. Those Triumphs were
flying! Actually, the Volvo was real busy defending against Alan Bryan's
Spitfire 1300 that finished fifth. Frank Daley and John Frymark's TR4's
battled between themselves further back but "first of season" niggles annoyed
them so as to keep them from the front. Jim Elbe joined us from RMVR and had
a good time getting aquainted with a new track. We hope to see him again.
F Production had Allen Weins and the Purple Hornet Spit leading the Mini's
and a flock of Formula Vee's until a misstep at turn three put him off the
track and out of the race.
I ran the GT6 in it's first race in my new class, D Production, and managed
to finish third behind a Lotus Super Seven and a Killer Sprite. I actually
diced the whole race with a Lotus Elan but couldn't stick with him on the
looong Oval banking. It's real fun to pass Porsches but no fun being the
only Triumph in D.
It was a great three day weekend of Racing and friends. There was two hours
of track time and Mordy and I had an extra half hour in the USRRC Seniors
tour race. Now we can't wait til next month in Las Vegas.
