This is probably elementary for you, Bill. If you use the steel shim head
gasket and flat top pistons, you normally have to take some metal off of the
piston crowns to keep them from hitting the flat areas of the head at the
combustion chambers. I have a few smiling pistons sitting on my shelves.
Kas has the super stars taking different amounts off of the piston crowns to
get the exact same clearance for all pistons. Me, I operate like Henry Ford
and lose some power. I automatically take 0.010" off of the crowns of all
pistons so that I can more easily replace them. With the Cosworth popup
pistons,
you still have to take off some metal on the flat area of these crowns.
