Every year as part of our deal with VIR (Virginia International Raceway near
Raleigh, NC) and the Gold Cup (Thursday June 10) we are granted the skid pad
and a little track time to do a story for Classic Motorsports magazine. We also
take street cars on a beautiful driving loop in the area. we generally buy
everybody lunch too.
This year we want to focus in on "Wind up Sports Cars", the little cars
that
are often overlooked. To this end, we would like to comparison test small
sports
cars in street and race configuration. Specifically we are thinking Triumph
Spitfire. MG Midget, Fiat 850 and Honda S-600-800.
Doug Miese has volunteered his racing S800. Susan has volunteered her
race Spitfire. Chris at Scuderia Sylvestri is supplying the race Midget. I
believe Pete Krause will supply a racing 850. There will be no racing involved,
but
we will be able to get out on track to photograph and take touring laps. Only
one magazine staff member needs to drive each car.

We still need a decent pre-1973 Triumph Spitfire in street trim as well as an
early Midget in the same condition.
Would one or more of you like to come out and play for the day?
