That's crazy talk, You guys are scaring me.

I find four things consistently wrong with lucal distributors.

1. Manufacturing tolerances, design and materials of the bushings--too
loose, too short, and too soft.

2. Ditto for the shaft. Too skinny, too soft, not very straight.

3. Goofy point plate design--even the ones made for no vacuum advance have
the wobbly vacuum advance plate--it's just pinned loosly in place.

4. Distributor cover--the plastic is too thin, especially near the clips.
Look at almost any Lucas Disty that has a good coil and you'll find a little
carbon spot on the inside of the distributor cap near the clip. Guess what
makes that spot. Is you don't have the spot your coil is probably weak.

If you use a good, modern timing light on a Lucas distributor the timing
mark routinely jumps. You can still set the timing because most of the time
it's in the same spot. Put a timing light on a good distributor with
electronic ignition and it's solid--no jumping at all. That's got to be a
good thing.

I tried, I really tried. I wanted to use the lucas because it looks correct.
What I would up with is a big box of lucas parts, alternate bushigs,
electronic bits, and workarounds, and about five pieces of quality catapult
ammo

Not a thing wrong with that system.
