Sorry, no photographs. I didn't think to take my camera with me that
day.

About a year later I did co-drive against an ex-John Buffum's factory
TR7 16V out in Oklahoma on a divisional Pro Rally. The car had been
converted to V8 spec. by the owner, but there were a lot of neat
original modifications. I'm not sure if they were factory, but the
bumpers had been molded by laying fiberglass over the original rubber
units. They were pretty rough, as there was no gel coat, but at 85 mph
who would notice.

My one claim to fame was to crash my Austin-Marina Pro Rally car about 1
mile past where John Buffum's first year, non-turbo Quatro broke down,
on the first National Pro Rally in Colorado. Hence, I did beat John
Buffum on my first National! : )

Thanks for sharing the memories. Someone else was not so shy, namely
Sean Hyland (now TV host, perofrmance car builder, etc.). purchased it
there. If you took some photographs, I would love to have them.

My understanding is that Woodner operated the car as a privateer and
had limited factory sponsorship with getting competition parts. So you
really did not miss out on getting a factory works car.

{ The term factory works car seems to mean different things to
different people. Given the state of confusion regarding works rally car
identifications and UK registrations, one never really knows if one has
the real factory works car or a clever duplicate these days. )
