                Doesn't that just make the holding of each gear more firm?  How 
does that
put more pressure on the synchro ring? Isn't the preussre on the synchro ring
regulated by the shift lever?  Maybe I'm a transmision dummie and can't see
it.

Put shims under the springs that push the balls
out of the shift hub. When
you shift, the sleeve pushes the hub against the
rings, which in turn forces
the rings against the cones, providing the
synchro action. More force means
faster synchro action.

I gave the synchros more spring tension. Did speed up the
shifting process but
at slow motion the are hard to push in
