...and to a lot of us, that defines the 8/10's rule. Racing just as hard as=
you can, coming up on a slower car approaching the apex and giving up the =
pass because you know he will be taking the line. You go 8/10's. If you are=
going to keep up with the guy you are stalking you may have to go more tha=
n 10/10's, getting to the edge of the grass and kicking up the gravel or us=
e you're edgy, maybe risky, off line driving skills. In vintage most times =
we take it safe and slow it up to either go around or take a position in li=
ne behind the slower car, knowing that our prey is getting away. That is wh=
at we do in vintage, apologies to Bob Tullias.
The above has nothing to do with the car that is out there bedding brakes o=
r breaking in the engine. When we are on the track, practice or not the lin=
e is for racing. The other drivers won't know what we are doing and as Bill=
accurately pointed out if someone is going at a vastly slower speed the po=
inting thing doesn't always work. When in doubt we get in line.
So Gary, I don't have a speedo in my car, and I rarely look at the dash at =
the end of either of those straights. Just how fast are you going at the en=
d of the Hallett straight?

Having just finished a driving school I can safely say we were told to hold=
the line and be aware there was a car coming up on us to pass. We were to=
ld repeatedly NOT to leave the line because that is where the over taking d=
river expected us to be. Personally I don't have enough experience to say =
one way or the other. I just know what I was told. I try very hard to be =
aware of everything that is going on, including cars coming up on me. I do=
my best not to hold them up by moving over when it is safe but I'm not cre=
eping around the track either. I hit the end of the straight in triple dig=
its at Hallett and TWS. Someone coming up on me may indeed be doing triple=
digit plus but I was told if I got to the corner first then the line was m=
ine and they had to wait to pass. Again I try not to let that happen in co=
rners but sometimes that can't be avoided.
I guess my point here is there seems to be some confusion and I for one wou=
ld really like to know what is "Right" and what is just someone's opinion.
