I dropped the diff in my '70 GT6+, to discover that its a Spitfire case, 
serial FH8xxx ... now I'm trying to figure out where to find the proper
seal and bearing part numbers.

Is this a 1300 to early-1500 diff? It's easy to find Spit chassis number
ranges, but not so much for the diff range :-)

Is there some characteristic measurement I can make to be sure?
