After installing the Honda engine my autocrosser, I started breaking things
in the rear with great regularity. Usually on exit of a sharp turn where
the joints are at maximum flex is when the U-Joints would let go.

I tried a number of different brands with little success until I found some
made by DANA Spicer. After I installed them, I had no more breakage. (That
is when I discovered the frailty of the diff itself.)

They are not found in your normal parts stores and you might (as I did) have
to go to a driveline specialty shop and have them special order some for
you.

Good Luck,
Joe C.

Subject: [Fot] '72 Spit U Joints

Afternoon List Members,

Need some help nearly could have killed myself last weekend at Road
Atlanta. Last session of the day on Sunday (the actual race itself). Put
her in reverse and while backing out of my pit the right rear u joint
broke (again). It broke off one of the bearing surfaces, cracked that
cap. Ruined both rear tires as they gouged into the fender lips
shredding the tread off. Damaged one fender a little too.

I had this happen two years ago at home when loading up for a race. Same
thing reverse and let out the clutch and BANG.

Had this happened on turn 12 at race speed ..... makes me very nervous.

Anyway what's the fix I have Sommers Bros axles, and I am pretty sure
the larger GT6 flanges for the u joints, stub axles etc. I tried last
time to find a solid u joint with no grease zerks or grease holes thru
the u joint cross but in checking with 5-6 manufacturers including
Dana-Spicer no one had any.

I like my butt and want this to be safe, butttt I like to go fast too so
I want to get the fix if there is any out there. Please help!!
