The goal is prevent hydration. Cosmolene comes to mind.  If you want an oil 
based product that is amazing.. Try Ballistol spray.  I use it for storing 
firearms. Simply amazing.

Amici,

We have a bunch of spare engine blocks laying around the shop and I'm
wondering what is the best way to store them.  I normally set them on
a block of wood but I'm wondering if setting them on concrete might
not be better.

Any other suggestions?
