If you are breakiing ring lands off of the pistons, then you are 
experiencing detonation. Seems like the real answer would be to retard the 
ignition timing &/or richen the mixture.  Running the engine on a dyno and 
finding the proper "tune" for the combination you are using would gain you 
power and reliability.
