Dip Stick Method for Gas level

I was wondering If anyone in the USA has gone to the trouble of making a dip
stick gas guage.  A few people in the UK have done this, but to convert the
measurements is a pain.  It would be helpful to most, as the sending units
are at best a good guess.  My tank is empty at 1/4 on the fuel guage, and I
do not trust it enough to take it out and calibrate it.
